Posted:Wednesday 31st October 2007 08:37   (Updated: Wednesday 31st October 2007 13:35)

With a new Chapter in Morell, SAVE PEI is gaining interest across PEI. This year we will expand our radio commercials and develop a new video.

  • A second branch of S.A.V.E. has started at Morell Regional High School in Morell PEI.
  • Teacher support is provided by Tim Lea in Montague and Carolyn Pendergast and John D. Farell in Morell.
  • Both groups are coordinated by Maxine MacLennan, Youth Project Coordinator with Eastern PEI Family Violence Prevention Services.
  • On September 13, 2007, our first VIP Golf Tournament was held at Callaway Golf Divine Nine in Brudenell, PEI.  Funds will help support SAVE activities.
  • November 2nd, SAVE Students will be participating in Research Day at the University of New Brunswick, Muriel McQueen Ferguson Centre for Family Violence Prevention. The theme for the day is; “Helping children and youth survive in the face of family violence”.
  • November 27th to December 1st is SAVE Week.
  • The Town of Montague will be proclaiming SAVE Week on their town signs.
  • Mandy Acorn, a 4th year nursing student at UPEI, is working with the students to develop SAVE Week activities to raise awareness about relationship abuse.
  • Morell and Montague groups are working on the writing and performing of new radio commercials with K Rock 1055 in Charlottetown.
  • Gemini Screen Printing owner Dave Beaton is sponsoring “Pink” anti-bullying T-Shirts for the students.
  • Morell SAVE has decided to focus on raising awareness of the December 6th Montreal Massacre Memorial.
  • The VIP Card (Violence Is Preventable) featuring phone numbers of helping agencies, will be distributed again this year.
  • SAVE buttons will be worn by students representing SAVE and for distribution during fundraising activities.
  • SAVE PEI would like to thank Aliant PEI for renewing its sponsorship of the SAVE program.
