Posted:Sunday 14th January 2007 18:01   (Updated: Wednesday 31st October 2007 08:04)

S.A.V.E. PEI is a project created by Montague Intermediate and Senior High Students in 2005-06. This project is a partnership between Montague RegionalHigh School and Eastern PEI Family Violence Prevention Services. In 2007, Morell Regional High School is also working with Eastern PEI Family Violence Prevention Services to start a second branch of S.A.V.E. on PEI . The purpose of the project is to create new ways to reach students with information about violence in relationships and where to go for help.

  • S.A.V.E. Week 2006 was held from November 27th to December 1st. Plans are in the works for this years SAVE Week.
  •  Students brought the Silent Witness Program to the School for two presentations reaching all Montague High Students. Shelly Molyneaux, whose's mother was murdered by her father and is one of the sialent witnesses, told her story of living with violence as a child. Along with the pain and saddness she shared her story of courage and survival.
  • VIP cards were distributed to all Montague High Students. The cards fit in a wallet or pocket and have contact information for many services including an abuse support worker, addictions, child abuse reporting, and an RCMP Youth worker.&nbsn;
  • Save students also distributed purple ribbons in memory of teh 14 women murdered in the Montreal Massacre.
  • SAVE PEI contributed their time and energy to make Atlantic Family Violence Prevention Week a success in Montague this year.
  • Two Save students received bursaries to attend the Youth Connext Conference in Mill River in April, 2007. They participated in a presentation about their group and its activities.
  • The third S.A.V.E. radio commercial aired on K-Rock 105.5 during March break, 2007. The fourth in this series will air during Prom week.
  • Save students are now working on a TV commercial to add to their 4 radio commercials about relationship violence and where to get help.
